Lecture:  Winning the War Against Homophobia

A decorated U.S. Army Iraq war veteran and out gay man, Rob Smith’s fight against the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy took him from the pages of The Huffington Post to various college campuses across the country to the front gates of the White House in protest.  Drawing on past personal struggles with coming out, suicidal thoughts, and battling homophobia both on the battlefield and as an out gay undergraduate, Winning the War Against Homophobia is a compelling narrative designed to give a face to issues regarding LGBT youth today while facilitating discussion about coming out, homophobia, and creating safe spaces for openly gay students on college campuses.

Dr. Kristenne Robison -  Allies LGBT Student Group Faculty Advisor – Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA – “Rob was dynamic and relatable, and his lecture was thought-provoking and real.  He was very accessible to the students and extremely easy to work with.  The students were very impressed, and treated him like one of their own.”

Dr. Matthew Porter – Alliant International University, San Diego, CA -  “Rob established an immediate and profound connection with the students and the rest of the audience.  There is a power and raw honesty to his story that touched many of us, myself included.”
